Announcing Open Parliament TV’s new leadership

Project Updates

Over the next few years Open Parliament TV has an ambitious plan to make parliamentary discourse accessible beyond parliamentary boundaries and across different languages and levels of government. In an important step down that path, we’re excited to announce a major leadership change to our organisation:

We are proud to share that Erika Owens has joined Open Parliament TV as Co-Director!

In a shift towards shared leadership, Erika Owens and Joscha Jäger will be managing the project as Co-Directors, establishing Open Parliament TV as a sustainable organisation and a strong force in the fight for a more open and accessible digital democracy.

Erika joins Open Parliament TV after more than a decade at OpenNews, a nonprofit journalism-tech organisation that began as a part of the Mozilla Foundation to support open source development in newsrooms and now helps journalists push for innovation and equity in their organisations. Starting out as Community Manager, she went on to lead the organisation as Deputy Director and Co-Director over seven years. Erika recently completed a John S. Knight Journalism Fellowship at Stanford University and brings extensive experience in organisational strategy, facilitation, journalism innovation, network building and nonprofit leadership into the project. Joscha founded Open Parliament TV five years ago and developed it from the initial idea to an established product and organisation. With over 10 years of experience developing video search engines, he designed the technical architecture of the project and built up in-depth knowledge of open data standards, interoperability and open government policies. Based on a deeply rooted passion for democratic participation and radical openness as an organisational principle, Erika and Joscha will share the vision and management of the project as it begins a period of expansion.
